MADURAI: "Bring in global positioning system to monitor each of the thousands of vehicles that crisscross the Temple City; expand the roads, bylanes and construct more road-over-bridges; conduct seminars in schools, colleges and places of public congregation to spread awareness of measures taken by the Government to tackle the changes happening in the city…"
These are not the recommendations of yet another high-power committee to tackle the numerous problems besieging the city but a sample of suggestions put forth by the participants at 'My Dream Madurai' contest.
It was held on Friday as part of the ongoing 'Ideal Home Exhibition' organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries' Association (MADITSSIA) at Tamukkam Grounds.
Categorised into three sections -- for schools, colleges and general public -- the award-winning entries will be forward to the Madurai Corporation for consideration.
One of the entries elucidated the numerous 'firsts' of Madurai such as possessing the first integrated bus stand in the State, first 'uzhavar sandhai,' first High Court Bench outside Chennai and educational institutions that have rendered over a hundred years of yeoman service to the society.
The prizes were given away by P. M. Mannan, Deputy Mayor, at a function in which V.H. Mohamed Haneefa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), K. Chellapandi, Lions District Governor, P.T. Krishnamoorthy, MADITSSIA president, also took part.
Competitions of various hues such as 'hair style' and 'bridal makeup' were held imparting a colourful character to this expo, which traces its antecedents to over two decades.
The judges panel for these two events included two professional beauticians, M.A. Rahima and J. Kalaiselvi, besides a couple of MADITSSIA members, Mallika Gnanasambandan and Sitalakshmi Krishnamoorthy. The exhibition draws to a close on Sunday.
